      Hey guys..... .How are you doing??? Welcome again to the best piano blog. This is one of the tutorials you'll have, and you can use it for a lifetime! Here, it is boldly written: An intro you can use for any praise song - any! Just be patient to get a full value of this post. And you know what, not just that, we also have left hand accompaniments you can add to it, and give it life! That will serve as a bonus. What's awesome than this??? Except God! 

Brief introduction: 

   Okay,  before we dive in, let us get a good understanding concerning the topic. As keyboardists/pianist, you must have something special to offer. And you know, on Sunday, it won't be very nice for the praise leader to wait for a couple of minutes for the keyboard man(you) to give an intro, and this keyboard guy is seen sweating, or probably laughing, waving etc, signalling that, 'I have nothing to offer'.  Then in annoyance, the singer faces the congregation back to start. Have you been in this terrible condition before? How pitiable that is! But hey, never feel bad. You are not the worst keyboardist or pianist alive. Help is here. And again ,not only in church, in other places too.

   For the exercise, firstly I will drop the main part, then other parts that follow will be the left hand bass line thing. Trust me, we are going to catch fun learning here.

So......hitting the start button

   So here, this is one of the many praise intros that once learnt now, you can use it for a lifetime, anywhere, anyhow! And it is one of the commonest intros in Nigeria... So pay attention!

The intro itself:

The intro is pretty easy to play, but all the way it may look complicated.....the end point is mouth-watering.....haha. To check it out in audio, click here. If you cannot score it, in solfa notation, we have it as:

Yep! As short and fair as that!

   Again, I recommend that you listen to the audio to know what we are talking about. That is the intro we are talking about, and we are gonna be working really hard on this.

   So practice that till you can play it without thinking of it- yes, that's possible. It is important that you pass through this level, and in addition,  you can also try this with your left hand to improve it.

   Let us move a step further. Now we are going to be seeing various left hand patterns we can use to build this one intro into something spectacular. Choose any accompaniment pattern you feel would suite you.

   Now here guys, this is a pretty important part of this post:

Left hand patterns you can use to supplement this intro

1. Intro with both hands in unison:

   We are going to be checking our first left hand pattern, which to playing with both hands in unison. Okay? I love to call this, 'follow me', because the left hand does the same thing as the right. This is sure a great way to improve your weak hand (left or right), and that is the reason why I mentioned it earlier that you should try the intro with your other hand. But now, the left is going to be playing the same thing the right hand is playing, at the same time. How fun that sounds!

   All the way, our left hand mimics our right, just like an exercise! Let's try that! And emm.....don't forget to speed it up!!!

   And........we move on to left hand accompaniment two, which is.......

2. Intro with chords, as left hand accompaniment: 

   This is the normal way most of us were trained up with, or probably the first approach we had. Jeez, this method is sure safer than the first. Nothing other than the grand old striking of chords, using the left hand, while our right does the work of playing the melody. The Left is just backing up.

   I made a good enough chord progression for the intro. Here it is:

Listening to the audio is very essential because it would make what we are talking about a reality. Click here to listen to this in audio, and have a better feel.
   It is just a basic  I-IV-V-I progression. You may decide not to follow this progression provided. You can go extra mile, and just be creative with that! Passing chords are there to be added, and also note that this should not be limited alone to primary chords, I mean chords in root position. Inverted chords also give a better intro.
    Then we progress to the final left hand pattern.

3. Intro, using left hand as arpeggio:

   Sure, this is a great and interesting technique to use. Arpeggio has remained one of our best accompaniment patterns, over ages. And sure, it would still remain so.

   What do I mean by 'Arpeggio'? Arpeggio is simply broken chords. Means breaking chords or triads into bits. So instead of striking DMS all together, as is normally done, you play it one by one, in any order, eg, MSD, S D M, D M S.....etc...you can move up octaves to make it sound more professional. That sounds easy! But try it when you are playing any melody with the right hand- that seems impossible. But really, it is possible. Just a matter of training one's fingers.

   Don't get too used to playing dumb chords on the left hand. Try something new, something different! And arpeggio is the next safest approach. You may perhaps not understand this, until you listen to the uniqueness of this technique in the audio provided.

   When you finally understand, don't bother to thank me- thank God! So from now on, try to start building your fingers in line with arpeggio. Now you are a step further than your counterparts.
